What's in Your Feel Better Kit?

A green first-aid-style kit with a white cross inside a circle on the front. Below the cross, the words “FEEL BETTER KIT” are written in white capital letters. The name “MARTINE ELLIS” appears in small text at the bottom right of the kit.

Because I write, doodle, and speak about productivity, you might assume I’m in a permanent state of productive flow: focused, energised, and ending each day with a clear to-do list.

Let me reassure you: that’s not always the case.

Some days, I’m distracted, tired, and completely out of sorts. But over time, I’ve learned (and tested) a number of strategies that help when I feel this way. That’s what I share with you.

One of those strategies is something I call my Feel Better Kit (though it’s made up of activities rather than things).

Mine includes:

  • Going for a run.

  • Paddling in the sea with my dog.

  • Singing show tunes in the shower.

  • Writing in my journal (especially working through worries or writing about things I am grateful for).

These activities always make me feel better and allow me to focus on what's important.
