Is This the Key to All Strong Relationships?
I recently listened to episode 964 of Chris Williamson's Modern Wisdom podcast, where Simon Sinek shares how he defines friendship and it’s not in the way most people do. He sees friendship as an agreement to grow together.
What’s interesting is that he uses the same definition for romantic relationships, workplace culture, and communities: all relationships.
It’s a simple idea, but it made me think.
When the people around us are also committed to learning, evolving, and helping each other improve, it changes how those relationships feel. There’s less pressure to have everything figured out. You create a safe space where people can experiment and ask for help. There’s accountability and care.
It just feels more sustainable and less likely to contribute to any form of burnout.
Perhaps there's a link with growth mindset too: we're not there yet, but we will work together to get there.
Whether in a friendship, a team, or a community, that shared commitment to growing together creates the kind of environment where we can all thrive.
I’d love to know what you think.
