Energy Accounting: An Energy Management Strategy

If your work involves leading or supporting others, you’ll know how much energy it takes. Some activities leave you feeling energised, while others drain your reserves.

That’s where energy accounting comes in.

Energy accounting helps you recognise the activities that drain and restore your energy so you can plan your week mindfully. Here’s how it works:

Think of your energy like a bank account. Some tasks act as deposits, topping up your energy. Others are withdrawals, leaving you drained.

The key is to understand these deposits and withdrawals. Perhaps make two lists in your journal (as shown in my doodle) and use this awareness to make decisions that protect your energy and wellbeing.

I’ve written some longer articles on energy management if you’d like to read them (or send them to your read-it-later app):

Now, over to you. Think about the last few days: What’s one thing you did that felt like an energy deposit? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you.
