Oliver Burkeman's 3/3/3 Technique for Getting Things Done

Have you tried Oliver Burkeman's 3/3/3 Technique for planning your work?

On a typical working day, he recommends:

  • Spending three hours on your most important project (with a clear goal for the day).

  • Completing three shorter tasks, like urgent to-dos, quick admin, meetings, or things you’ve been avoiding.

  • Making time for three maintenance activities (the things that keep life running smoothly).

What I like about this approach is how it encourages a realistic, defined block of deep work each day, helping you avoid the trap of constantly reacting instead of making proper progress. It also creates space for all types of work, including the important but not urgent tasks that are so easy to avoid.

While I find this approach a bit too rigid for my preferred working style, I can see how it might be helpful for those seeking more structure.
