There’s No Such Thing As Time Management

There’s no such thing as time management.

Which is awkward, because I write about time management a lot.

Time will pass no matter what you do. You can’t speed it up or slow it down. And (unfortunately) you can’t store it for later.

The truth is, you can’t really manage time.

What you can manage is yourself (at least some of the time). You can decide what to focus on, what to say yes to, and what to choose to do first.

I think of it this way: time is not in my circle of control, but how I respond to things going on around me is.

Self-management isn’t always straightforward, especially if you are neurodivergent. Attention, decision-making, and prioritisation can look and feel very different. It helps to treat self-management as something you can experiment with, rather than a system to get right.

So rather than trying to manage time, focus on what’s actually within your control: your attention, your choices, your energy.

Start with you.
