The Cost of Saying Yes

We often think about boundaries in terms of what to say no to.

But there’s another way to frame it. Instead of thinking about what to turn down, ask, "What will it cost me if I say yes?".

Every yes has a price, whether it be time, energy, attention, wellbeing, or something else. And time is finite. We like to believe we can afford more than we really can, but the reality is that our resources are limited.

So when an opportunity, project, or request comes your way, pause and ask yourself: Can I actually afford to say yes right now?

Sometimes the most sustainable choice isn’t about what you decline. It’s about recognising the true cost of what you accept.
